After the Runway – Season 17, Episode 5: High Fashion to High Street

SoT_PR

Hey everyone! It’s been a couple of weeks, but I’m back from vacation, and ready to recap this past week’s episode of Project Runway! 🙂

If you aren’t familiar with it, here’s what happens: each week, I recap the previous week’s episode, and offer up my thoughts on the top and bottom 3 looks each week.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

This week, the designers were taken to Brooklyn to meet Dapper Dan, who is largely responsible for bringing high fashion to streetwear back in the 1990s. Some of the designers weren’t familiar with him, and I’m glad the show didn’t omit that. I wasn’t familiar with him either, and I like that the producers are humanizing the designers.

Anyway, the challenge: to create a luxury streetwear look with (less than) 1-day to do so.

Let’s have a gander at the bottom looks this week.

Rakan

Rakan

My thoughts: It was clear that Rakan was not all that familiar with American streetwear. Personally, I did not think that his look should have put him on the bottom. I feel that his look would have been perfectly acceptable streetwear in his homeland.

Jamall

Jamall

My thoughts: This look did NOT say ‘streetwear’ to me, unless it was in the Victorian era. Ruffles and collars? And that print. It’s pretty, but noooooo, not streetwear. I was convinced this was going to send him home.

Kovid – eliminated

Kovid

My thoughts: Poor Kovid. Having his friend Afah sent home last week really rattled him, and he just never recovered. Kovid’s look was really safe, not nothing new or imaginative, but to me, should not have been enough to send him home.

Here are the top looks.

Garo

Garo

My thoughts: This challenge was right up Garo’s alley, and his look shows it. The print was gorgeous, the collar with the zip was fresh, and the corset really nailed the look. My pick for the winning look this week.

Venny

Venny

My thoughts: Venny’s look was quite interesting, but I didn’t feel it was anything different or unique. I really did love the jacket.

Bishme – winner

Bishme

My thoughts: I really loved Bishme’s jacket, except for one thing: the exaggerated shoulders. I felt like they were too gimmicky. Otherwise, his entire look was PERFECT.

What did you all think about the looks this week?
